"Little Children"

“Little Children”, a gem of a movie directed and adapted by Todd Field (“In The Bedroom”, shown in 2001, starring Marissa Tomei, Tom Wilkinson and Sissy Spacek) from Tom Perrotta’s novel (“Bad Haircut”, Joe College” and “Election”, which was also made into a critically acclaimed film by Alexander Payne starring Reese Witherspoon) is a simple and poignant story that tells the inner working of people’s mind in a small town setting that could be the reflection of a larger setting. I was interested to watch the film since it won the New York Critic’s Award and according to Time magazine, it was robbed of an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. And I must agree with Time, since comparing it to Babel, “Little Children” has all the flavors that Academy members tend to favor, great cast (Kate Winslet in her nude glory), great story, great editing, great cinematography. The film starts telling the story of Ronnie, a convicted felon accused of child molestation charges who was set free and was put back into the mainstream society, and the town where he resides. Kate Winslet plays as a mother of a young girl who has an ongoing affair with the husband of Jennifer Connely (“A Beautiful Mind”, “Blood Diamonds”) and how the whole town is reacting to the series of events. I could relate with this in the manner that I think it is a universal thing, to judge others, to talk about their lives and the consequences of our actions. I am hoping you could still catch this in theaters or even in your “suking pirated DVD stores”, the best line in this movie is, “We can’t change our past, but we could change our future”. To Todd Field, congratulations for affecting me with a movie that I could completely relate to.
